OUR MISSION

Galvanizing the renaissance of Central Baltimore.

Since our founding in 2006, we’ve dedicated ourselves to improving the quality of life for all Central Baltimore residents. At heart, we are a problem solver — the one to turn to for support no matter what you’re going through.

Our nonprofit is exceptionally good at leveraging private, philanthropic, and institutional resources to strategically fill in the gaps. Intentional community change occurs here. From start to finish, we deeply listen to the voices and vision of our community partners.

We’ve worked with over 100 partners, including nonprofits ranging from small neighborhood associations to large universities and hospitals, businesses of all sizes, and government agencies active in the eleven neighborhoods of Central Baltimore.

OUR FOCUS AREAS

Alongside our partners, we activate vacant properties including homes, commercial and industrial buildings, and empty lots. We know that affordable housing for all income levels and vibrant public spaces are the foundation of a thriving community.

We help small businesses expand or locate here, revamping unused or underutilized spaces. Local shops and restaurants benefit the community in countless ways.

We improve the public realm with signage, lighting, murals, landscaping, and by creating new and improved open spaces and community gardens.

We advance public health and youth opportunity in innovative ways — with cooking classes, improving access to healthy foods, sponsoring exercise activities, and connecting people to health care providers.

We manage the Station North Arts District with dynamic public programming including Artscape, Art Walks, and Asia North. Our acquisition and expansion of Area 405 and North Avenue Market allow local artists and entrepreneurs to create, show, and sell their work.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Committed to diversity and equity.

Central Baltimore has an extremely diverse population — in fact, it is the most racially diverse group of neighborhoods in the city, with all segments increasing — black, white, Asian, Latino, Arab and other.

Central Baltimore is an eclectic mix of artist live-work spaces, galleries, rowhomes, and shops. With whimsical murals on every corner, it’s easy to spend the day exploring lively maker spaces, historic film theaters, one-of-a-kind eateries, bustling local businesses, and inviting pocket parks.

Because Central Baltimore is so multi-faceted, our programs take a similar approach. We balance brick-and-mortar development with social services and arts programming. There are a lot of dots to connect, but that’s what we do best. We ensure that the benefits of our work extend to the entire community, especially our most underserved residents.

The areas we serve comprise of Abell, Barclay, Charles North, Charles Village, Greenmount West, Harwood, Oakenshawe, Old Goucher, East Baltimore Midway, Remington, and Wyman Park neighborhoods, plus Waverly Main Street commercial district, the Jones Falls River watershed, and the Station North Arts District — the first area in Baltimore to receive the State designation as an Arts & Entertainment District.
